Opening a new veterinary clinic, while exciting, can be a huge undertaking. As you assess what you need for the new veterinary clinic setup process, it can be easy to get overwhelmed by all your available options and get distracted from what is most important.

New Veterinary Clinic Setup: Our Equipment Recommendations for a Successful Practice [infographic]

At Georgian Anesthesia and Medical Corp., we offer new veterinary clinic setup guidance. Before you start taking patients, we can help you decide what equipment you should invest in. And although the list below is by no means comprehensive, it includes helpful recommendations for items you need when getting your veterinary practice up and running.

The Reception Area

Your reception area is the first impression your patients will have of your practice, so you want it to be warm, comforting, and personalized to your brand and have all of the necessary tools and equipment to efficiently take care of each valued customer who walks through your doors. Ensure you include ample space between seating, so you can keep your patients and their owners safe and comfortable. If you don’t have a very large waiting area, consider putting plexiglass barriers between each seat. You could also include product displays and a sanitation station to further personalize your waiting room.

Exam Rooms

First and foremost, each of your exam rooms should house a sturdy exam table to make your furry patients feel comfortable. Make sure you have all the necessary exam equipment, such as stethoscopes, thermometers, flea combs, etc., and have a treat and toy basket readily available to put your patients at ease.

Medical Record Keeping

Keeping accurate and detailed veterinary records is an essential aspect of every appointment. Although most practices these days prefer to use digital records, some still opt to keep some or all of their records in paper form. Either way, make sure you have the tools and storage needed to properly store and update patient records.

Surgery Suite

A comprehensive surgery suite should include all the tools necessary to complete safe and effective operations. Consider equipping your surgery suite with a surgery table and lights, anesthesia equipment, patient warming equipment, monitoring equipment, a dental unit, and an autoclave.

Treatment Area

Your treatment area is another of the most important parts of your veterinary clinic. Equipment you should invest in for this part of your clinic includes ample drug and supply storage, patient cages for those awaiting treatment or undergoing overnight stays, and a refrigerator for temperature-sensitive supplies.

Laboratory Area

A laboratory area is a key part of your veterinary practice that your employees will use and access regularly. Include blood analyzers, a microscope, and a centrifuge in this part of your practice.
