Preparing Owners for Upcoming Vet Surgery Procedures

by | Oct 25, 2019 | Medical & Veterinary Equipment Blog, Veterinary Blog

When it comes to surgical procedures in veterinary offices, there are your animal patients that you need to care for, but also their human counterparts that need some assistance through the procedures as well. It can be trying for any pet owner to wait anxiously through a pet procedure. Here at Georgian Anesthesia and Medical Corp., we want to help you make an upcoming vet surgery procedure easy for both the patient and their human.

One of the best things you can do to prepare owners for upcoming vet surgery procedures is to have very clear instructions and make sure these instructions are followed by the entire family, especially if there are small children in the house. This means that if there are no food or drink allowed, make sure they understand that zero food and drinks are allowed before their vet surgery, even if that means offering to keep them overnight.

Another helpful thing to do is to make sure that after-surgery tips are discussed before the surgery takes place. Explaining the after-effects of anesthesia and the healing process can help owners be more cognizant of what their pet is going through coming out of surgery and better help them through it. Additionally, explaining to families with children that their pet might need a cone and a lot of rest and relaxation can make sure they don’t get back to play immediately after surgery, which could end up causing a lot of damage and distress to your animal patients.

If you have tips on preparing the family members of your pet patients for upcoming vet surgery procedures, we would love to hear them. Please let us know what your favorite tips are in the comments below.
