Get Better Images with These Veterinary X-Ray Guidelines

by | Jan 25, 2019 | Medical & Veterinary Equipment Blog, Veterinary Blog

Taking successful radiographic images of your furry patients goes back to two things: the quality of your veterinary X-ray equipment and the skill of the technician. We can help you secure reliable, innovative veterinary X-ray equipment for your practice, but the quality of your images is up to following these guidelines:

  • Positioning matters—The best radiographic images require proper positioning of the patient. Before using your X-ray equipment, position your patient correctly or risk difficulty interpreting the image and, in some cases, an incorrect diagnosis.
  • Reduce exposure—It is imperative that you reduce radiation exposure while using veterinary X-ray machines. Educate your staff on the importance of reducing radiation exposure for your patients and provide anyone using the equipment with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Use appropriate restraint—It almost goes without saying that getting effective X-rays involves properly and ethically restraining your patient. While manual restraints and ties can both prove effective, do not be afraid to incorporate sedation to increase patient comfort and reduce anxiety.
  • Put patient stabilization first—Diagnosing patients is always of paramount importance, but what matters more is ensuring your patients are stable before moving forward with radiography.
